History of Rifugio Firenze

The Rifugio Firenze was built in 1888 as one of the first mountain huts in Val Gardena by the German-Austrian Alpine Club (DÖAV Regensburg). When in 1921, with the end of the First World War, South Tyrol was given to Italy, the administration of the hut was transferred to the CAI of Florence, which renamed it "Rifugio Firenze". In 2010, after almost 90 years in hands of CAI Florence, the hut was entrusted to the Autonomous Province of Bolzano, which still owns it.

The Perathoner family

The Perathoner family's historical management began in 1940, when Matiè Perathoner decided to dare this adventure and dedicate himself passionately to the life in the mountains. Dedicating energy, time and heart, and thanks to the help of his wife and children, they succeeded in making this hut one of the most attractive and famous destinations in Val Gardena.

"La mia vita al rifugio"

The book of Resi Perathoner

More information and interesting stories about the life on the mountains in the book: "My life on the hut" - 70 years of management of the family Perathoner. A biography of the yearlong manager Resi Perathoner available at the hut for 10,00 € only in German or Italian.
